Rewatching 8-17 Goodbye Stranger

This was a really good episode! One of the best of the season. I really LOVE Meg this ep. I love Megstiel. I LOVE Winchester family feels and Unicorn feels. Meg/Cas reminds me a lot of the Benny/Dean to come. Sacrificial love makes my heart bleed. I also love the question posed by Meg on what is worth dying for. I think that is a huge theme of the season and of this ep and I want to delve right into that. There is also that theme of what is good and bad in this ep. Well, maybe not a theme but Meg’s thoughts on the matter are really beginning to bug me now. What IS good? Religiously speaking, good is the Will of God, and bad is against. Angels are good and demons are bad. And yet in Supernatural, angels are portrayed as similar to humans - just as clueless and without direction as humanity. And here we see them moving against God’s Will - at least in the sense that they think Dean and Sam are expendable and we on rewatch (and just as fans of the show) know that that is not true. Cas went against the other angels in Season 4 and 5 but was not necessarily bad. Cas trying to be God - now I guess you could say that was bad - killing off all his brothers and sisters and lying to the people he loves and who love him, of course only because he thought it was the right thing to do, but it really wasn’t. This whole don’t lie to the people you love thing is a theme again this ep.
