Hello and welcome!

This is a blog dedicated to the rewatch of Supernatural episodes. There will be vague spoilers on recent episodes in relation to the past episodes so please keep that in mind.

I have a separate blog for creations such as icons, Season 9 and counting comments (brief?), fanvids and daily activities in Japan. Feel free to check it out in the link section (Supernut's Chat Room). I am also open to icon/banner requests if you like my particular style.

* If you would like me to friend you, please sent me a message. If you do not and friend me, I will assume you want it to be one-sided(You are free to do this - my blog is open for now).

As we enter Season 2, and in anticipation of many more seasons, I have decided to put the links to all episode comments up front for whoever would like to view previous rewatch comments.

Comments and poll participation are welcome at anytime. If you have just recently decided to rewatch Season 1 again, I would love to share that experience with you. At the end is also a link to the final poll in which you are also welcome to participate!

I’ve always loved this episode for Dean in costume and Charlie-sister/brother love and this is actually my third viewing already this time around, having watched it along with the previous episode a couple of times. But, I got much more out of it this time when it really hit home that this ep was talking about Dean’s fear, and that there were so many parallels between Charlie and Dean and what happens at the end of this Season and the beginning of Season 9. Mother-daughter love never fails to touch me, and tears welled at that ending hug between the boys.

Let me just start on this right away so I don’t take too long to get it out - considering all the gifs I want to make at this point.

I am seriously considering changing the style of my reviews at this point.  I need to do something to pick up the pace and make it possible to finish instead of burning out mid-series or moving at a snail’s pace and finishing 100 years after the series ends!! LOL I really really want to get to the good eps in the future as soon as possible.

There are just a few scenes in this episode that I really enjoyed. As with many others who commented in the poll entry, I thought the Hell scene was oversimplified and boring. Sam got through both Purgatory and Hell way too easily.  The whole rouge reaper idea was a question mark as well. But this review did give me a good opportunity to look back at other references to Hell, Purgatory and reapers, the differences we see here in this ep, and possible reasons for it.  And, I think I actually figured out why Bobby was in this type of Hell instead of what the Winchesters experienced respectively.  The scene between Dean and Benny was heartbreaking, Sam/Bobby was pretty cute and of course Winchester hug!!!<3

I began writing this review a few weeks after watching waaaay back in June. For some reason, I didn’t want to write anything at the time, and for a long time. When I finally forced myself to sit down I had to watch it again, because I didn’t remember what had happened as clearly. The second rewatch was very hard. I had to stop quite early on in the episode. I literally felt sick watching even the first scene, knowing that the vamp was innocent and listening to him begging for help and then being blamed for something he didn’t do and being killed so cruelly, with so much hate. It was just too much.

Hate is a terrible thing. It makes people irrational and cruel. Vengeance is not healthy. There is something extremely wrong with watching anything or anyone’s death with satisfaction, to ease your own pain or hatred. I’m reminded of several other eps in Supernatural - of course one of which is Asylum, the ep where the doctor tries to cure mental sickness by getting the patients to express anger. It doesn’t work. When anger is let out, it grows and grows until you are doing something you never meant to do. It reminds me of the song Dark Moon Rising in Devil’s Trap - which to me sings of racial discrimination and hatred. Don’t go out tonight… I hear the voice or rage and ruin, One eye is taken for an eye… Because groups of people with ideas of hatred and vengeance can be swept up into action like a hurricane or a huge wave. Action that is irrational and cruel and blown out of proportion.

People with power can use these feelings of hatred and vengeance for their own profit. That is what I feel we are warned in this episode and in so many others of Supernatural - most clearly in the way Lucifer uses Sam’s hatred to gain control.

For anyone who didn't realize, I have been around a bit, writing a bit at my personal comm, supernuthome, even while I was absent here. I'd love to see all of you there too especially since it's been slow here.

This was a really good episode! One of the best of the season. I really LOVE Meg this ep. I love Megstiel. I LOVE Winchester family feels and Unicorn feels. Meg/Cas reminds me a lot of the Benny/Dean to come. Sacrificial love makes my heart bleed. I also love the question posed by Meg on what is worth dying for. I think that is a huge theme of the season and of this ep and I want to delve right into that. There is also that theme of what is good and bad in this ep. Well, maybe not a theme but Meg’s thoughts on the matter are really beginning to bug me now. What IS good? Religiously speaking, good is the Will of God, and bad is against. Angels are good and demons are bad. And yet in Supernatural, angels are portrayed as similar to humans - just as clueless and without direction as humanity. And here we see them moving against God’s Will - at least in the sense that they think Dean and Sam are expendable and we on rewatch (and just as fans of the show) know that that is not true. Cas went against the other angels in Season 4 and 5 but was not necessarily bad. Cas trying to be God - now I guess you could say that was bad - killing off all his brothers and sisters and lying to the people he loves and who love him, of course only because he thought it was the right thing to do, but it really wasn’t. This whole don’t lie to the people you love thing is a theme again this ep.

Disappointed? Do something about it.
