Hello and welcome!

This is a blog dedicated to the rewatch of Supernatural episodes. There will be vague spoilers on recent episodes in relation to the past episodes so please keep that in mind.

I have a separate blog for creations such as icons, Season 9 and counting comments (brief?), fanvids and daily activities in Japan. Feel free to check it out in the link section (Supernut's Chat Room). I am also open to icon/banner requests if you like my particular style.

* If you would like me to friend you, please sent me a message. If you do not and friend me, I will assume you want it to be one-sided(You are free to do this - my blog is open for now).

As we enter Season 2, and in anticipation of many more seasons, I have decided to put the links to all episode comments up front for whoever would like to view previous rewatch comments.

Comments and poll participation are welcome at anytime. If you have just recently decided to rewatch Season 1 again, I would love to share that experience with you. At the end is also a link to the final poll in which you are also welcome to participate!

This is a very interesting ep. There are many things about it that are hard for me to handle - such as most of the dialog between Sam and Dean which seems awful, and Dean and Portia about dogs and girls - also awful. Then Dean’s, again, bigoted reaction to his friend who has become a witch since they saw him last, his and Sam’s readiness to make James guilty of the crimes instead of looking into other possibilities… But, on these rewatches I’m going deeper than the initial reaction to delve into the why. Why is this an ep about a witch and his familiar? Why are the boys acting like they are? There is a point to be made, and parallels to be drawn. That’s where it becomes interesting.

OK, since we don't have an ep this week, let's see if I can move my rewatches forward!  The next ep is Man's Best Friend with Benefits, and I'd love to hear what you think of this episode in the following poll and/or comments as I make my thoughts coherent enough to post!

Thank you everyone for your patience! I am glad there is no episode this week as this rewatch post would have been delayed even further if there had been - although I really miss getting a new ep.

I really like this episode, mostly for the speeches by Sam and Dean showing their love for each other and affirming each other’s worth. There were also some really cute moments and I went all out on the gifs. I hope you enjoy!

Life has been busy as usual but I've been working on the review a bit at a time and now have a rough draft to work with so, here's our next poll of the rewatch season.

What do you think of Trial and Error?  I'd love to hear your thoughts while I put the finishing touches on my review of the ep!

Again, a bit later than planned, but I hadn't taken Christmas and New Years craziness into account so here it is.  Finally :)

I don’t know if I noticed previously that this episode was very similar in theme to last episode. There were so many parallels between the Rabbi’s grandson and Sam and Dean! This was basically a parallel ep - like God’s telling them through this experience to go on and continue their grandfather’s work because it is something only they can do. Supernatural has a lot of these lessons doesn’t it? Teaching the boys lessons through their hunts and things that happen to other people that are similar to their own situation. I wish we had them as much in real life (or were bright enough to see them) LOL

Let’s go right in and start at the beginning.

I'm trying to get out of the rut I've been in for the last 6 months so this time, in order to get the review done more quickly, I've written out a draft before even posting his poll. (I've been working! :D)

I'll be editing and adding various gifs - because this is that kind of ep - before posting but I should be able to get it done in a week. Not having a Season 13 ep to work on helps as well. So, while I'm doing that, I'd love to hear what you think of this episode in the following poll and/or comments. If you have some gif requests, I'd be interested in hearing those too!

Finally I finished this ep.  I'm going to have to figure out a way to work on these rewatches without the procrastination because this is just ridiculous.  I think I watched the ep 4 or  times just because there was so much time in between LOL

As Time Goes By seems to be one of those eps that divides the fans into two camps. One that does not like the writers 'making up' new information about the boys’ family history, and one that enjoys getting some new information.Read more...Collapse )

This took a veeeery long time for various reasons but I'm proud of myself just for doing a little bit at a time and actually finishing it. It is also veeeery long so, thank you to everyone who takes the time to read it!

I rewatched this ep way too many times when it first aired. I say too many because I actually got a bit sick of it by the time I was done. I overdo things sometimes, which is one of the reasons why I decided to do the kind of rewatch where I watch all the eps so I don’t get sick of one favorite episode by watching it too much. I still remember the excitement I felt that day though, as I watched it and discussed it with friends over at supernatural.TV forums.

I’m not quite sure what it was about the ep that I loved so much at that time, but can tell you one thing for sure. The LARP setting of King Arthur/Robin Hood type fantasy is really my kind of thing. I don’t know if I could pretend so thoroughly in real life, and actually participate in such an event, but I love the period, and I’ve always imagined myself and characters in the period with fascination and romanticism, sort of like I’ve felt for the Wild West - just like Dean in fact. THIS is Dean’s world, truly. A world in which he can be “of” the period without really being there, enjoy all the romanticised, fantastic notions without the reality. And Dean dressed up in middle ages costume was and is still one of the special aspects of the ep.

I also really appreciate Sam and Dean doing something fun together. It’s not often we see this, but they really needed it after what they both went through, and the looks Dean gives Sam remind me so much of Season 1!

Another reason why I’ve always liked this ep is that this is where Charlie realizes that she had been hiding in her dreamworld after the shocking and stressful events of Season 7. Dean assures her that she is a hero in real life, and she proves it by getting rid of the villain herself. She also decides that she is going to live in the real world from now on despite the fact that the real world had real monsters she had to face. This is also the reason why I was so disappointed in the next Charlie episode. But I’ll discuss that more when we get there. What I do want to think about more this time around is the parallels between Charlie and Sam in their reasons for hiding in their dreamworlds as well as a general theme of the ep, that dreamworlds are necessary sometimes, as a coping mechanism and relief from the stresses/griefs of real life.

I called this ep light and frivolous in the poll comments, and this was because the plot itself seemed weak and to rely heavily on the “fun” aspects - so that once the initial excitement wore off, the story itself wasn’t as entertaining to watch. But, sometimes frivolity is necessary. All the funny lines put me at ease and made me happy and boy did I need to have some fun too after all the angst and pain of the previous eps - Dean’s pain, Sam’s pain, and the pain of all the fans divided :( It was truly a hard first half of a season.

I sense there is also a hidden theme within this ep that is only seen through this kind of careful (re)watch. An emphasis on the difference between a game and real life, how fantasy can be used as an escape, but also the danger of confusing it with real life. This theme is actually carried over from Hunteri Herorici and we can maybe see some parallels to Sam’s situation in that sense as well.
